Biography
The German music producer and singer Fritz Kalkbrenner was born on May 28, 1981 in East Berlin. Through his older brother Paul, he got to know the Berlin techno scene at an early age and sang for his childhood friend Sascha Funke for the first time on a released song in 2003 on "Forms & Shapes". He also lent his distinctive voice to his brother when he worked on the soundtrack to the 2008 film Berlin Calling, in which Paul Kalkbrenner also played the lead role. The techno track "Sky & Sand" was a worldwide success and spent 129 weeks in the charts in Germany. Fritz Kalkbrenner then began producing his own music and joined the Berlin label Suol in 2010. In the same year, he released his debut Here Today Gone Tomorrow, including the single "Facing the Sun". With the albums Sick Travellin' (2012), Ways Over Water (2014) and Grand Départ (2016), he made it into the German top 10 album charts three times in a row with his relaxed house beats. The most successful singles during this time were "Get a Life" and "Back Home", which was even awarded a gold record. For his fifth album Drown (2018), he dispensed with vocal tracks altogether and released an instrumental tech house LP. He founded his own label, Nasua Music, where he released the album True Colours in 2020, which reached number 6 in Germany. After a brief creative break, Fritz Kalkbrenner returned in November 2024 with the album Third Place. The album climbed to number 17 in the German charts.
