Franz Josef Degenhardt, born on December 3, 1931, in Schwelm, Germany, was a German singer-songwriter, writer, and lawyer. He began his musical career with the album Zwischen null Uhr null und Mitternacht: Baenkel-Songs 63 (1963). His breakthrough came with the 1965 album Spiel nicht mit den Schmuddelkindern (1965), featuring the hit song of the same name. Degenhardt was a prominent figure in the 1968 movement, addressing political themes through his music. Subsequent albums include Degenhardt Live (1968) and Wildledermantelmann (1977). His song "Hereâs to You" (1972) was a solidarity anthem for Angela Davis. Degenhardt passed away on November 14, 2011, in Quickborn, Germany.
