Foden's Band, originally Foden's Motor Works Band, was formed in 1900 in Sandbach, Cheshire. The band achieved Championship Section status by 1909. Under conductor Fred Mortimer (1927â1953), they won the National Championships eight times and were broadcast around 250 times. The band has performed by Royal Command on three occasions: in 1913 for King George V and Queen Mary, in 1938 for King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, and in 1983 for Queen Elizabeth II. They have won the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain twelve times and the British Open Championships eleven times.
