The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, a cavalry regiment of the British Army, were formed on July 2, 1971 through the amalgamation of the 3rd Carabiniers (Prince of Walesâs Dragoon Guards) and The Royal Scots Greys (2nd Dragoons). Members of the regimentâs Pipes and Drums began releasing music shortly after their formation, with their first single âHeykenâs Serenade / The Day Is Endedâ released on August 4, 1972. Later that year, their rendition of âAmazing Graceâwas released as a single and became a UK Number 1 hit, remaining at the top of the chart for five weeks. In 2007, they released the album Spirit Of The Glen on November 26, produced by Jon Cohen for Decca Records and recorded at the Red Hot Chilli Pipersâ studio. The regiment has been involved in numerous military deployments including Northern Ireland, the Gulf War, Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Their contributions to both military service and music have earned them a distinguished place in British military and cultural history.
