Biography

Five Times August is the pseudonym of Dallas-based pop singer-songwriter Bradley James Skistimas, born in Lewisville, Texas, on August 5, 1983. Following a series of independent releases in the early aughts, he gained notoriety after every song on his long-player Fry Street (2005) was featured on the popular MTV series Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County. An expanded edition of the full-length titled The Independent saw the light in 2007 and became the first album by an unsigned act to be distributed by Wal-Mart. After touring relentlessly throughout the United States, Brad Skistimas and Five Times August returned in 2008 with Brighter Side, followed by 2009’s Life as a Song, a collection of re-recorded songs from his first two albums. That same year, he reissued his studio debut, 2001’s Say. Over the course of the next few years, he released the blues and jazz-influenced EP Where Did I Go? (2013) and another EP titled This Too Shall Pass in 2014. Subsequently, Five Times August contributed to the soundtrack of the movie Status Update (2018) and Then Came You (2019), and remained active through a series of politically-charged non-album singles, including “Silent War” (2021), “Joe” (2021), and “Sad Little Man” (2021), which peaked at Number 16 on the American streaming charts.
