Biography

Field Mob, an American hip hop duo from Albany, Georgia, is composed of Darion "Smoke" Crawford and Shawn Timothy "Shawn Jay" Johnson. Growing up in a relatively poor neighborhood known as "The Field," the duo formed after a series of rap freestyle battles at Monroe Comprehensive High School. Their breakthrough came with the release of their debut album 613: Ashy to Classy on December 2000, which reached number 35 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart and was critically acclaimed by outlets such as The Source. Following this success, Field Mob collaborated with notable artists like Trick Daddy and Big Boi. In October 2002, their second album From tha Roota to tha Toota was released, featuring the single "Sick of Being Lonely" which became a significant hit. After signing with Disturbing tha Peace in August 2005, Field Mob released their third album Light Poles and Pine Trees on June 2006, which included the hit single "So What" featuring Ciara. This album reached number 7 on the US Billboard 200 and number 2 on Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums. The duo left Disturbing tha Peace Records in late 2011 following a dispute with Ludacris over a song produced for Shawn Jay's mixtape, leading to several diss tracks.
