Expression Direkt, formed in 1992 in MantesâlaâJolie, Yvelines, is a French alternative hipâhop group composed of Delta (JeanâLuc Elizabeth), Kertra (Rachid Bioubi), Le T.I.N. (Mouelle Njoh Njoh), and Weedy (Michael Haustant). The quartet first appeared on the independent compilation Ghetto Youth Progress in 1994, where their track "Dealer pour survivre" was later featured in the soundtrack of La Haine (1995). Their debut studio album Le Bout Du Monde was released on 28 April 1998 under the production of Rud Lion and entered the French charts at position 19, while the single "78" peaked at number 82 on the national singles list. In 2000 the group returned to independence with Wesh On Ecoute Ou Quoi?, which critics regarded as a high point of their discography. The 2002 release D. Terminé reinforced their reputation for hardâcore rap, and the 2004 EP The X Sessions showcased collaborations with emerging artists. Throughout the early 2000s, Expression Direkt toured extensively across France and maintained a presence on radio and television, although they faced intermittent bans from mainstream media. The group continued to influence the French hipâhop scene through solo projects and joint ventures, solidifying their status as pioneers of the genre in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
