Born in Moscow, Russia on October 1, 1949, Evgeni Koroliov is a pianist best known for his interpretations of the works of Johan Sebastian Bach. As a student, he attended Central Music School in Moscow. His teacher was Anna Artobolevskaja and he took lessons from Heinrich Neuhaus and Maria Yudina. He then joined the Tchaikovsky Conservatory and studied the piano with Lev Oborin and Lev Naumov. Invited to teach at the prestigious conservatory, Evgeni Koroliov chose to leave for Yugoslavia in 1976, before moving to Germany where he taught at the Hamburg School of Music from 1978 until 2015. At the same time, he pursued a career as a soloist and also formed the Duo Koroliov with his wife, fellow pianist Ljupka Hadzi-Georgieva. One of the first artists to record for the German label Tacet, he is most recognized for his interpretations of works by Bach including Die Kunst der Fuge (1990), Goldberg Variations (1999), and The Well-Tempered Clavier - Books I and II (2000-2002). He also recorded popular works by Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Schubert, Chopin, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann, Brahms, Ravel, Debussy, and others. These releases include Ravel: Works for Piano (2017) and Beethoven: Late Piano Works (2017).
