Esmé Patterson, born in Boulder, Colorado, and originally from Denver, Colorado, is an American musician known for her work as a singer. She began her career co-founding the indie folk band Paper Bird but left to pursue a solo career. In 2010, Patterson and Paper Bird were commissioned by Ballet Nouveau Colorado to compose music for the ballet Carry On, which debuted in 2011. Patterson released her debut album All Princes, I on October 20th, 2012, under Greater Than Collective. Her second album, Woman to Woman, was released in 2015 and featured songs that responded to male-gaze hits from the perspective of female subjects. Patterson co-wrote "Dearly Departed" with Shakey Graves, which reached number 5 on the Billboard Adult Alternative Airplay chart in 2014. Her subsequent albums include We Were Wild (June 10th, 2016), There Will Come Soft Rains (March 6th, 2020), and Notes from Nowhere (October 10th, 2023).
