Biography

Escolania de Montserrat is a Spanish boys' choir and music school from the Montserrat Abbey in Catalonia. Documentation from 1307 established the group as one of the oldest choral institutions in Europe. While consisting of approximately 20 members in 1494, the ensemble expanded to over 50 boys. Under the direction of Ireneu Segarra and Bernat Vivancos, the choir performed internationally in countries such as Russia, Germany, and Switzerland. Its discography featured the recordings Benevoli: Missa Salisburgensis (2005), Narcís Casanoves: Missa a 6 Veus / Salve a 5 i 6 Veus (2006), and Martí: Silencio - O Magnum Mysterium (2011). The ensemble performed religious services in the Montserrat Basilica. In March 2023, the community established the mixed choir Schola Cantorum, which debuted on September 11, 2023, and included 14 female voices.
