Eric Alexander Mercury, born on June 28, 1944, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, was a singer. He began his career as part of The Soul Searchers during the 1960s. In 1966, Eric Alexander Mercury released his first single "I Wondered Why" / "Softly" with The Silhouettes. He later moved to New York and released his debut solo album Electric Black Man in 1969 on Avco Embassy. His notable hits include "I Can Smell that Funky Music", which charted in Canada in 1972, and a duet with Roberta Flack, "Our Love Will Stop the World", which reached the U.S. charts in 1983. Eric Alexander Mercury passed away on March 14, 2022.
