Ensemble Project Ars Nova, also known as Ensemble P.A.N., was a group specializing in medieval music. Founded by American artists at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland, their debut performance occurred in 1982 at the Festival Estival in Paris. The initial members were Laurie Monahan (mezzo-soprano), Michael Collver (contratenor, corno muto), and Crawford Young (lute). By 1984, Shira Kammen (string instruments) and John Fleagle (tenor, medieval harp) joined the ensemble. Named after Philippe de Vitry's Ars Nova, a significant treatise from the 14th century, Ensemble P.A.N. released several notable albums, including Jacopo da Bologna in 1985, Ars Magis Subtiliter: Secular Music of the Chantilly Codex in 1989, and The Island of St. Hylarion: Music of Cyprus, 1413-1422 in 1991. Their work often featured collaborations with other ensembles such as The Boston Camerata and Tapestry. Ensemble P.A.N.'s discography also includes Angeli - Music of Angels, released in 1995.
