Biography
Enrique Jordá was a Spanish-American conductor. He conducted in Madrid before moving to Cape Town and Antwerp. He was music director of the San Francisco Symphony from 1954 to 1963. During this period, Jordá made notable recordings for RCA Victor and Decca, including works with the London Symphony Orchestra and National Symphony Orchestra. He gave the world premiere of JoaquÃn Rodrigo's âFantasÃa para un gentilhombreâ with Andrés Segovia during his tenure in San Francisco. After leaving San Francisco, he worked as a guest conductor across Europe, South America, and Australia. Jordá died on March 18, 1996 in Brussels, Belgium.
