Engineers is a British shoegaze and dreamâpop group formed in London in 2003 by bassistâguitaristâkeyboardist Mark Peters, singerâguitarist Simon Phipps, bassistâguitarist Dan MacBean, and drummer Andrew Sweeney. The bandâs first release was the single "Home" in Aprilâ¯2004, followed by the miniâalbum Folly in Septemberâ¯2004, which featured a cover of Tim Hardinâs "If I Were a Carpenter" and the original track "Forgiveness". Their selfâtitled debut album Engineers was issued on 7â¯Marchâ¯2005 by Echo Records. In 2008, the bandâs lineup changed when MacBean and Sweeney departed; they were replaced by bassist/vocalist Daniel Land, drummer Matthew Linley, and keyboardist Ulrich Schnauss. The second album, Three Fact Fader, launched on 6â¯Julyâ¯2009 under Kscope. A third studio effort, In Praise of More, followed on 27â¯Septemberâ¯2010, and the fourth album, Always Returning, arrived on 11â¯Augustâ¯2014. Throughout their career, Engineers secured a UK chart position of Numberâ¯48 for "Forgiveness" and saw "Home" adopted as the theme for the fourth season of the U.S. series Big Love in 2010. The group released Pictobug in 2020.
