Biography

Emma Shapplin, born Crystêle Madeleine Joliton on May 19, 1974 in Savigny-le-Temple, is a French singer renowned for her unique style combining opera, electronic music and pop. She began her career in hard rock as a teenager, before turning to classical music, where she discovered her passion for opera. Under the direction of composer Jean-Patrick Capdevielle, she recorded her first album, Carmine Meo (1997), which enjoyed international success, notably with the hit "Spente le Stelle" . She followed this up with Etterna (2002), a more orchestral album that repeated its success, reaching the charts in Europe. 2009 saw the release of Macadam Flower, a more experimental album blending elements of rock and electronic music. The next, Dust of a Dandy (2014), explores more acoustic and intimate sounds, while Venere (2019), returns to an operatic pop style in Italian.
