Celebrated internationally as the leader of the British rock band Wolf Alice, Ellie Roswell was born in London, England, on July 19, 1992. She grew up in the city's Archway district, raised by an Irish family whose members encouraged her to learn the tin whistle as a child. She made the jump to electric guitar as a teenager, then formed Wolf Alice with fellow guitarist Joff Oddie in 2010. Initially a folk-inspired act, Wolf Alice transformed its sound into a blend of grungy pop and hard-hitting indie rock, which proved to be popular across the world. The band's debut album, My Love is Cool, reached Number 2 on the UK Albums chart and Number 14 on Billboard's Top Rock Albums chart in 2015. It received a gold certification and a Mercury Prize nomination in England, where Roswell was heralded as one of the country's fiercest frontwomen. Three years later, the sophomore album Visions of a Life won the Mercury Prize for "Album of the Year," with Wolf Alice also received a Brit Award for "British Group." Meanwhile, Ellie Roswell began appearing as a guest on other artists' albums, duetting with alt-J on two songs from the band's 2017 album Relaxer â most notably "3WW," which reached Number 22 on Billboard's Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Number 27 on the UK Indie chart â and collaborating with the Grammy-winning producer Mura Masa on 2020's "Teenage Headache Dreams." Nominated for "Best Alternative Video" at the UK Music Video Awards in 2020, "Teenage Headache Dreams" remained a viral sensation and commercial hit for several years, charting in Peru, Canada, Mexico, and Brazil as late as 2022.
