Biography

Electric Hippies, a pop duo from Sydney, Australia, was formed in 1993 by Steve Balbi and Justin Stanley. The band emerged from the rock group Noiseworks, which had achieved several chart-topping singles and albums in Australia between 1986 and 1991. Electric Hippies' music blended psychedelic rock elements with a modern pop sensibility, heavily influenced by the sound of the 1960s, particularly the Beatles. Their debut single "It’s Cool" was released in 1993 under their own label RooArt Records. The following year, they released another notable single "Greedy People", which charted both in Australia and Germany. Their self-titled album The Electric Hippies was released in 1994 and featured a collection of songs that caricatured 30 years of rock history. While the album reached number 25 in their home country, it did not achieve significant international success. The band also released other singles including "Jonny Courageous" and "I Believe in You". Electric Hippies were known for their live performances, which often featured additional musicians. Despite their relatively short career, Electric Hippies left a lasting impact on the Australian music scene. The band disbanded in 1995.
