Biography

Formed in Melbourne, Victoria, the Australian band Electric Mary is a contemporary act rooted in loud, guitar-driven classic rock. Named after Jimi Hendrix's Electric Lady Studios (and the studio's modern-day manager, Mary Campbell), the group was launched in 2003 by Rusty Brown, who pieced together a lineup of hard-rock musicians inspired by the stomp and swagger of the genre's 1970s glory days. "Sail On," Electric Mary's debut single, was released the following year and charted at Number 76 in Australia. It also appeared on the band's first full-length release, Four Hands High, that same year. Following the release of an EP, The Definition of Insanity, in 2006, the band released another full-length record, Down to the Bone, in 2008. The album earned Electric Mary a nomination for "Best Rock Band" at the 2008 MusicOz Awards, as well as shows alongside iconic rock acts like Whitesnake, Judas Priest, Deep Purple, and Alice Cooper. Lineup changes were frequent, with Brown maintaining his position as the band's frontman and de facto leader. An EP, Long Time Coming, and an LP, III, were both released in 2011, with the band performed at the World Cup in South Africa that same year. The EPs From the Vault (2012) and The Last Great Hope (2014) prefaced the release of Electric Mary's fourth record, Alive in Hell Dorado, which arrived in 2016. Two years after the release of 2019's Mother, Electric Mary returned with a new radio single, "The King Of Rock'n'Roll."
