Biography

An Australian trio formed in 2009, Electric Empire rides the soul revival wave of the 1970s. The band's principal composer, Dennis Dowlut, is a former dance music composer who enjoyed success with his late brother under the name Kaylan and then Disco Montego between 2000 and 2005. His brother's sudden death deeply troubled him, and he decided to give up commercial music. Returning to Melbourne in 2009, Dennis Dowlut met up with two old friends, Jason Heerah and Aaron Mendoza, with whom he began jamming. The three musicians recorded their first demos, largely inspired by the music of Al Green and Stevie Wonder. Spotted on the internet, they were invited to play at the Glastonbury Festival on June 24, 2011. Their first single " Baby Your Lovin'" , released on August 8, 2011, quickly became a radio hit, backed up by prestigious support slots for Aloe Blacc and the Brand New Heavies. Their first self-produced album, Electric Empire, was released on November 14, 2001 in the UK and on April 17, 2012 in France.
