Biography

Leonel Edmundo Rivero, born on June 8, 1911, in Valentín Alsina, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, was a tango singer and composer. He learned classical guitar and trained as a singer, developing a deep bass-baritone voice. Rivero began his career singing in small venues and made his radio debut with a duet on Radio Cultura. In 1935, he joined Julio De Caro’s orchestra, gaining fame. He later collaborated with Aníbal Troilo during a three-year stint starting in 1947, recording notable songs like "Sur". Rivero left Troilo in 1950 to start a solo career. In 1969, he opened El Viejo Almacén, a tango club in San Telmo. He toured Japan in 1968 and composed "Arigato Japón" and "A lo Megata." Rivero continued performing until his death from heart failure on January 18, 1986, in Buenos Aires.
