Biography

Emerging in 1993 as the brainchild of siblings Sarah and Richard Lacy and multi-instrumentalist David Bird, Christian band Eden’s Bridge quickly gained a reputation for fusing sounds from Celtic folk, progressive rock and pop to provide a contemporary spin on traditional songs. Recruiting bassist Jon Large and Iona member Terl Bryant into their ranks to form the group’s most well-known lineup, the Yorkshire-based group found commercial success within the Christian music scene, landing a prolific major-label record deal with EMI subsidiary StraightWay which saw them release a multitude of albums over the course of the 1990s and 2000s. The band’s first two albums, 1995’s Celtic Worship and 1996’s Celtic Psalms, both entered the Billboard Christian Albums Chart upon release, and their 1998 album Celtic Christmas, a compilation of well-known carols and traditional Irish carols, peaked at number 40 on the same chart, also reaching number seven on Billboard’s World Albums Chart. After recruiting a number of additional collaborators for their later albums including uilleann pipes player Michael McGoldrick and woodwind specialist Simeon Wood, the group took a five-year hiatus in 2005, eventually returning with a four-part series of EPs, released throughout 2010 and 2011 and packaged as a box set entitled The Seasons.
