Ede Ulfert Staal, born on August 2, 1941, in Warffum, Netherlands, was a singer-songwriter known for his work in Streektaal music. In 1981, Ede Ulfert Staal's career began to take off when he was discovered by Engbert Gruben, an employee at Radio Noord. His song "Mien Toentje" became the theme for a gardening show on the station and gained significant popularity. This led to numerous performance requests, though Staal accepted few of them. In 1984, he released his first album Mien Toentje, which featured songs in the Groninger dialect and achieved national success. Ede Ulfert Staal passed away on July 22, 1986, at the age of 44 due to lung cancer. Posthumously, he received the K. ter Laan Prize for his contributions to Groninger culture.
