Edward John O'Brien is an English guitarist, songwriter, and producer best known as a founding member of Radiohead. Born in Oxford (15 April 1968) and educated at Abingdon School, he formed the band in the 1980s alongside Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, Colin Greenwood, and Phil Selway. His atmospheric guitar textures, effects work, and vocal harmonies became an essential part of Radioheadâs sound on albums such as OK Computer, Kid A, In Rainbows, and A Moon Shaped Pool. In 2019, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Radiohead. After many years focused mainly on the band, Ed OâBrien launched a solo career under the name EOB with the album Earth in 2020, produced by Flood and Catherine Marks. Influenced partly by his years living in Brazil, the record blended alternative rock, ambient music, and electronic elements. He followed it with Blue Morpho in 2026, produced with Paul Epworth. Alongside his work as a musician, Ed OâBrien has also been involved in environmental activism and music-industry initiatives.
