Biography
The Joneses were an American soul and disco group who emerged in Pittsburgh in the late 1960s. The band, who later relocated to New York, were initially formed as a soul-funk outfit before shifting to a more disco-oriented sound as the genre began to dominate the music scene. Their music combined elements of R&B, funk, and disco. Founded by singer Glenn Dorsey with other original members including Harold Taylor, Sylvester Brooks, and Ernest Holt, the group are best known for singles such as 1974's "Hey Babeâ (which went to number 18 on the R&B chart) and crossover hit, "Sugar Pie Guy", (which went to number 10 on the R&B chart and number 47 on the pop chart) along with 1979's "Love Contest". Despite not achieving mainstream commercial success on the scale of other acts from the same period, the Joneses left a lasting impact on the soul music world.
