Dorothy Moore, born on 13 October 1946 in Jackson, Mississippi, is an American singer known for her contributions to soul, gospel, and blues music. Raised by her great-grandmother, she started singing in the church choir at a young age. Her early musical training included being a member of the Poppies with Petsye McCune and Rosemary Taylor while a student at Jackson State University. The group recorded for Epic Records' Date subsidiary, making it to number 56 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1966 with "Lullaby of Love". Her career blossomed thanks to several ballads recorded for Malaco Records. Her breakthrough came with "Misty Blue" (1976), which reached number two on the R&B chart and number three on the Billboard Hot 100. Other notable songs include "Funny How Time Slips Away" (1976) and "I Believe You" (1977). Following a hiatus from music, she made a comeback to record the gospel album Givin' It Straight to You (1986) for Nashville's Rejoice label. She later returned to Malaco Records in 1990, releasing several albums over the following decade. She has four Grammy Award nominations, and her version of "Misty Blue" appeared on the soundtrack for the 1996 romantic fantasy drama film Phenomenon. She has continued to record music into the 2020s, with I'm Happy with the One I've Got Now emerging in 2020.
