Immortalized by the 1972 hit "The World Today Is A Mess", Donna Hightower recorded her first song for the Decca label twenty years earlier. Born in Carruthersville, Missouri, on December 28, 1926, "Little" Donna Hightower enjoyed a chequered career, from her rhythm'n'blues beginnings with two albums released by Capitol in 1959 to her fame as a soul singer in the 1970s. Moving to France and then Spain, she sang in English and Spanish for Columbia. Her hour of glory over, she retired to Austin, Texas, in 1990, where she died on August 19, 2013 at the age of 86.
