Biography

Dona Ivone Lara, born Yvonne Lara da Costa on April 13, 1922, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was a singer and composer. She began her musical journey by learning to play the cavaquinho from her uncles and took voice lessons from LucÃlia GuimarÃ£es. Dona Ivone Lara's breakthrough came in 1965 with "Os cinco bailes da histÃ³ria do Rio". She also became the first woman to join the Wing of Composers at ImpÃ©rio Serrano samba school. She released several albums, including Bodas De Ouro (1997), Nasci Para Sonhar E Cantar (2001), and Sempre A Cantar (2006). Notable collaborations include "Sonho Meu" with DÃ©lcio Carvalho, performed by Maria BethÃ¢nia and Gal Costa. She passed away on April 16, 2018.
