Biography

Born in Cojímar, east of Havana, Cuba on March 23, 1997, to a Mexican father and Cuban mother, Camila Cabello grew up in Miami, Florida, US where the family moved when she was six. At fifteen, the teenager auditioned for The X Factor (2012). Although she flunked out, during the season she was invited by jury member and talent scout Simon Cowell to join a group of five contestants, who finished in third place. Called Fifth Harmony, the quintet enjoyed immediate success with the EP Better Together and the single "Miss Movin' On " (2013). Between the group's albums Reflection (2015) and 7/27 (2016), Camila Cabello composed a duet with Shawn Mendes, "I Know What You Did Last Summer", which reached #20 on the Billboard charts. Her departure from Fifth Harmony, made official on December 18, 2016, came after another duet with rapper Machine Gun Kelly, "Bad Things", charted at #4. After further collaborations with Cashmere Cat ("Love Incredible"), Pitbull and J Balvin ("Hey Ma"), Camila Cabello focused on her own career and recorded a series of tracks, starting with "Crying in the Club" (May 2017), composed with Sia, followed the same year by "Havana" with rapper Young Thug (#2) and "Never Be the Same" (#61). Her debut album, Camila, released on January 12, 2018, featured the new single "Real Friends". A few months after the immense success of this first effort, number one in the United States, the young woman came back with a series of singles, led by "Senorita", her sensual duet with Shawn Mendes, which became number one everywhere it plays. It was part of the Romance album (#3 in the USA), released in December 2019, and spawned two new hit singles: "Liar" (#52) and "Shameless " (#60). Two years later, she consolidated her success with Familia (#100), her third album, led by the single "Don't Go Yet" (#42). The singer appeared in the film Cinderella before returning to music to present her collaboration with Ed Sheeran, "Bam Bam" (#7 in the UK), nominated at the Grammy Awards for Best Pop Duo Performance. Camila Cabello became a coach on the American version of The Voice, replacing Kelly Clarkson in 2022, but only for one season. At the end of the year, she left Epic Records to join Interscope Records. In 2024, she presented her new single, "I Luv It" (#81 in the US), which she recorded with Playboi Carti. The track preceded her fourth album, C,XOXO, ranked #13 on the US Billboard 200 chart and two other singles, "He Knows" on which she is joined by Lil Nas X and "Hot Uptown" (#62) on which she shares the mic with Canadian rapper Drake.
