Biography

Disciples, a British reggae band, was formed in 1985 in London by Russel "Russ D" Brown and Lol-Bell "Lol" Brown. In the mid-1970s, Russ D started playing bass and transitioned from punk to reggae music by the late 1970s after being inspired by specialised press publications on reggae music. The duo released their first dubplates in 1985, which were introduced by Jah Shaka at one of his dances, marking a significant breakthrough for the band. They adopted the name The Disciples. The group's debut album Deliverance: Commandments Of Dub chapter 6 was released in 1987. They went on to release several albums under labels like King Of The Zulu Tribe and Boom-Shaka-Lacka. In the mid-1990s, Lol left the band due to personal reasons, prompting Russ D to continue as a solo artist, forming the label Backyard Movements in 1997. Notable collaborations include releases with artists such as Tony Roots and Sister Rasheda.
