Biography
Beverlei Brown is a British soul and R&B singer who began her career singing in her motherâs church choir in Birmingham. She eventually became the leader of the choir and later performed as a soloist with the Clark Sisters. Brown provided vocals for a Fine Young Cannibals album project and joined the group on a worldwide promotional tour. She toured with Ruby Turner for two years and collaborated with artists including Joe Cocker, Simply Red, Snap!, and Babyface. In 1996, she recorded the single âOn and Onâ, though a planned album remained unreleased after her record label folded. Brown signed with Dome Records in 1998 and moved to London to record her debut album Next to You. The album included a duet with Dennis Taylor titled âCould Be Youâ and was expanded for its United Kingdom release following success in Japan. In the early 2000s, Brown recorded the songs âPart Time Loverâ, âTell Meâ, and âSomebody Knows How You Feelâ. The track âSomebody Knows How You Feelâ reached number 96 on the UK Singles Chart. In 2003, she recorded lead vocals for the Full Flava song âLove Holds No Limitâ. Brown collaborated with Justin Hawkins on the song âAshamedâ and performed with him in 2007 during the selection process for the Eurovision Song Contest.
