Biography

Real name Davide Bernasconi, Italian folk and rock singer Davide Van De Sfroos was born in Monza, Lombardy, on May 11, 1965. He made his debut with the punk-inspired band Potage, before contributing to the 1986 album A Gap in a Learning by the pop-rock group Kony Dance, and forming, with bassist Alessandro Frode, the group De Sfroos, active from 1990 to 1998 and authors of three albums, one of which was recorded live. In 1997, he published his first book, Perdonato dalle lucertole, which won the Tenco prize, before launching his solo career with the album Brèva e Tiván (1999). While he continued his work as a writer with Captain Slaff (2000) and Le parole sognate dai pesci (2003), Davide Van De Sfroos, who retained the name of his former band as a pseudonym, pursued his career as a Lombard folk-rock singer with the albums ...E Semm Partii (2001), Laiv (his first live album, 2003), Akuaduulza (2005) and Pica! (2008), summarized on the Best of 1999-2011 compilation. The following original albums, Yanez (2011) and Goga e Magoga (2014), are widely distributed by Universal Music Italia. In 2015, the album Synfuniia features fourteen pieces from his repertoire recorded with the Bulgarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. This was followed by the live album Quanti Nocc (2019) and Maader Folk (2021), released by BMG, as was its successor Manoglia (2023). A new live recording, Davide Van De Sfroos Live 2022, precedes the Van De Best 1999-2015 retrospective, released in 2024.
