Biography

David Francey, born on November 17, 1954 in Ayrshire, Scotland, is a Canadian folk singer-songwriter. He immigrated to Canada at age 12 and began his musical career at 45 after working as a rail yard worker and carpenter for 20 years. Francey's debut album Torn Screen Door was released in 1999, featuring songs like "Gypsy Boys" and "Hard Steel Mill". He gained recognition with subsequent albums Far End of Summer (2001) and Skating Rink (2003), both winning Juno Awards for Best Roots & Traditional Album - Solo. Francey collaborated with traditional country artists Kieran Kane, Kevin Welch, and Fats Kaplin on the album The Waking Hour (2004). His album Right of Passage (2007) won a Canadian Folk Music Award for Best Singer - Contemporary.
