Dave Berry, born David Holgate Grundy on February 6, 1941, in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, is an English rock singer and former teen idol. Inspired by Chuck Berry, he changed his surname to "Berry" and signed with Decca Records in 1963 after being spotted at a ballroom in Doncaster. His debut single "Memphis, Tennessee" reached number 19 in the UK. Throughout the 1960s, Dave Berry released several notable hits, including "Little Things", which peaked at number 5 in the UK and topped the charts in the Netherlands. Other significant songs include "This Strange Effect" (1965), a cover of Ray Davies' song that became a Number 1 hit in the Netherlands and Belgium, and "The Crying Game" (1964). Dave Berry's stage presence was influenced by Elvis Presley and Gene Vincent, often appearing entirely in black. He continued to release singles throughout the 1970s and 1980s, releasing his first studio album in 1987, titled Hostage to the Beat. The song "The Crying Game" gained international recognition when it was used as the theme for the 1992 film of the same name. He released his sixth studio album, Memphis...In The Meantime, in 2004 via Blues Matters Records, with his autobiography, Dave Berry - All There Is To Know, hitting shelves six years later.
