Biography

Daniel Brel, born in 1950 in Égleny, France, is a musician known for his roles as an accordionist and bandoneonist. Coming from a family of musicians with roots in Europe Central, Brel formed the Contratiempo Quartet in Pau in 1979, which included piano, bandoneon, cello, and double bass. The group gained recognition through a series of concerts titled Autour du tango. Brel also collaborated with singer Arnaud Marzorati on accordion recitals and composed music for theater, cinema, and dance between 1992 and 1994. His teaching career included positions at the National School of Music and Dance in Évreux (1998), in La Rochelle (2001), and in Pau (2005). Notable releases include Autour du tango with Contratiempo Quartet (2000), Bello Cando (2002), and Quatre chemins de mélancolie (2004). In 2013, three of his compositions were featured on the radio show Venez quand vous voulez on France Musique.
