Biography

Cultured Pearls, a German pop rock band, was formed in 1992 when Bela Brauckmann and Peter Hinderthür met while studying popular music at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg. The duo, known as B. La and Tex Super respectively, began creating demo recordings with an eight-track mixing console, laying the foundation for their future sound. The band's initial breakthrough came in 1995 when they signed a major deal with WEA Records and released their debut album Sing De La Sing, which blended funk, R&B, and jazz-pop. The album peaked at number 92 on the German charts, and the single "Tic Toc" reached number 65. Following this success, Astrid North joined as the lead vocalist and lyricist, contributing to the band's eclectic mix of styles including country and rock. Their second album Spaceage Honeymoon was released in 1997, reaching number 54 on the German charts. In 1999, Cultured Pearls achieved their highest chart position with Liquefied Days, which entered the Top 20 of the German album charts. The band's final studio album, Life on a Tuesday, was produced by Jon Kelly and released in 2002, peaking at number 74. After a best-of compilation in 2003, Cultured Pearls went on an indefinite hiatus. Astrid North passed away on June 25, 2019.
