Biography
Cuby + Blizzards, a Dutch blues rock group, was founded in 1964 by vocalist Harry Muskee and guitarist Eelco Gelling. Originating from the village of Grolloo, the band's early lineup included Nico Schröder and Hans Kinds. Their first single, "Stumble and Fall", was released in 1965, followed by their breakthrough hit "Back Home" in 1966. The band gained significant attention with their album Praise the Blues, recorded with U.S. blues musician Eddie Boyd, and the top 10 hit "Window of My Eyes". Throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s, Cuby + Blizzards released several notable albums, including Groeten Uit Grollo (1967), Trippin' Thru' a Midnight Blues (1968), and Appleknockers Flophouse (1969). They collaborated with prominent musicians such as Van Morrison, John Mayall, and Alexis Korner. In 1976, Eelco Gelling left the band to join Golden Earring, leading Harry Muskee to disband Cuby + Blizzards and form the Harry Muskee Band. The original group reformed in 1996 without Eelco Gelling, who was replaced by Erwin Java on guitar. Notable posthumous releases include Grollo Blues (2021). The band received an Edison award for their debut album Desolation. Harry Muskeed diedo of cancer on 26 September 2011. Bassist Herman Deinum died on 5 December 2025 at the age of 79.
