Biography
Cruachan, an Irish folk metal band from Dublin, was formed in 1992 by multi-instrumentalist Keith Fay. Initially inspired by Tolkien's universe, Fay started with a black metal group called Minas Tirith before shifting focus to traditional Irish music after discovering Skycladâs The Wayward Sons of Mother Earth. Cruachan released their debut album, Tuatha Na Gael, in 1995. Despite initial interest from major labels, the band dissolved in 1997 due to contractual disagreements. Fay reformed Cruachan in 1999 and signed with Hammerheart Records, releasing their second album, The Middle Kingdom, in 2000. The group's lineup expanded to include Karen Gilligan on vocals for subsequent albums like Folk-Lore (2002) and Pagan (2004). In 2006, Cruachan released The Morriganâs Call.
