Biography

Crimson Glory, an American heavy metal band originating in Sarasota, Florida, formed in 1983 after evolving from Pierced Arrow (1979-1982) and Beowulf (1982-1983); the classic line‑up featured vocalist Midnight (John Patrick McDonald Jr.), guitarists Jon Drenning and Ben Jackson, bassist Jeff Lords, and drummer Dana Burnell. After four years of rehearsal, they released their self‑titled debut Crimson Glory in 1986, followed by Transcendence in 1988, which produced the hit single "Lonely" and earned a Kerrang! cover in May 1989; the band toured with Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, and Queensrÿche. They continued with Strange and Beautiful in 1991, then Astronomica in 1999, the latter selling over 30,000 copies in Europe. Midnight departed in 1991, later returning for the 1999 lineup with Wade Black, but he died of a stomach aneurysm on July 8, 2009. Todd La Torre joined in 2010, toured internationally, and left in 2013 after an inactive period. In 2023, the band revived with vocalist Travis Wills and guitarist Mark “Borgy” Borgmeyer, released the single "Triskaideka", and scheduled the first studio album in 27 years, Chasing the Hydra, released on April 17, 2026.
