Biography
Craig Douglas, born Terence Perkins on 13 August 1941, in Newport, Isle of Wight, United Kingdom, was an English pop singer. Before his music career, he worked as a milkman and was famously known as the 'Singing Milkman'. His breakthrough came when he was given the stage name Craig Douglas by his manager Bunny Lewis. In 1959, he released a hit cover of Sam Cooke's "Only Sixteen". This song topped the UK charts and outsold Sam Cooke's original version. Throughout the late 1950s and early 1960s, he recorded eight cover versions of American hits, resulting in nine Top 40 UK singles. His notable albums include Craig Douglas (1960), Bandwagon Ball (1961), and Our Favourite Melodies (1962). In 1961, he participated in the A Song For Europe contest with "The Girl Next Door" and starred in the film It's Trad, Dad! (1962). His final hit record was "Town Crier", which peaked at number 36 in February 1963. He continued performing at nightclubs and on cruise ships until 2010, including a notable appearance at the Amersham Rock 'n' Roll Club in December 2010. He released several albums later in his career, including The Craig Douglas Project (2011), which featured versions of "Auberge" and "Creep". The Only Sixteen compilation came out in 2019.
