Biography
Cordell Jackson, born Cordell Miller on July 15, 1923, in Pontotoc, Mississippi, was an American guitarist. She began performing with her father's band at a young age and recorded demo records for Sam Phillips in 1947. In 1956, she founded Moon Records in Memphis, releasing her first single "Beboppers' Christmas" that year. Jackson served as engineer, producer, and arranger for various artists on her label. She saw a resurgence when Tav Falco's Panther Burns and Alex Chilton covered some of her Moon label's old singles and began playing occasional shows in the 1980s. Jackson also appeared on the national talk show Late Night with David Letterman in 1991 and 1992, and released her only solo full-length album, Live in Chicago in 1997. She died of pancreatic cancer in Memphis on October 14, 2004 at age 81.
