Cool Hand Luke is an American band originating from Middle Tennessee State University in 1998, formed by Brandon Morgan and Jason Hammil. Initially influenced by punk rock, their sound evolved with the addition of Mark Nicks on drums and lead vocals. Cool Hand Luke signed to Floodgate Records in 2002, releasing Wake Up, O Sleeper (2003) and The Fires of Life (2004). After a hiatus, they released The Balancing Act (2007), a retrospective compilation. The band signed to Lujo Records on March 16, 2008, and subsequently released The Sleeping House (2008), featuring piano-based songs with diverse influences. Mark Nicks, the sole remaining member, announced Of Man in 2009 and released it in 2011, which told the story of Jesusâ final days from various perspectives. The album featured contributions from over 30 friends, including members of Underoath and Quiet Science. After another hiatus, Nicks launched a Kickstarter project for Cora (2017).
