Biography
Conjunto Graneros is a Chilean folkloric ensemble founded in the town of Graneros (Región de OâHiggins) on December 8, 1966, originally with 13 members drawn from local âfamilias cantoras.â The group has been directed since its inception by Miguel Gutiérrez Lazo, who helped formalize its community roots and develop its stage craft. Through the late 1970s the ensemble documented its cuecas, tonadas, and valses in Odeonâs historic series El Folklore de Chile, including Vol. XXXII (1978) and later entries, while growing a national profile with radio and television appearances. Early long-plays such as Fiesta con Graneros (1981) and the widely circulated Cuecas Paâ Morir Parao (1995) established a template of repertoire partly collected and arranged by folklorist Miguel Lastra. In the 2000s, their catalog expanded with Tonadas del Valle Central (2006) and the anthology 30 Cuecas de las Mejores Cepas del Folklore (2010). The 2010s and 2020s brought renewed activity with releases such as Celebrando las Fiestas Con Cuecas Cacheras (2018), Valses de Chile (2020), and seasonal projects with sister ensemble Los Grillitos de Graneros, including Navidad Chilena. More recent output has included digital singles and videos revisiting traditional numbers like âViva Chile, Viva Chile,â âLlegaron las Fiestas Patrias,â and âYo No Canto por Cantar,â along with new material such as âCon el Viento de Septiembreâ and the 2025 instrumental release âLa Niña de España.â
