Biography

Company Flow was formed in 1992 in Queens, New York by rapper and producer El‑P and DJ‑producer Mr. Len, later joined by rapper Bigg Jus; the trio originated from Brooklyn, New York. Their first single, "Juvenile Techniques", appeared in 1993, followed by the debut EP Funcrusher on their own label Official Recordings in 1995. In 1997 the group signed to Rawkus Records and released the full‑length album Funcrusher Plus, which helped revitalize underground rap alongside labelmates such as Mos Def. After touring for two years, Bigg Jus departed and the group dissolved, although El‑P and Mr. Len released the instrumental album Little Johnny from the Hospitul: Breaks & Instrumentals Vol. 1 that same year. In 2000 Company Flow issued the single "DPA (As Seen on TV)", which included new tracks and a preview of the planned album Paincave, later abandoned in favor of El‑P’s solo work. The trio reunited briefly for shows in 2007 and 2011 and performed their final concert at Coachella in 2012. Their influence remains evident in the subsequent careers of El‑P, Mr. Len, and Bigg Jus, who have all continued to release music under various independent labels.
