Biography

Clogs is an instrumental project led by Bryce Dessner and Padma Newsome, who, along with Rachael Elliott and Thomas Kozumplik, all met while studying at the Yale School of Music in the late 1990s. Newsome, born in 1961 in Alice Springs, Australia, began his career as a concert violinist with the Sydney Symphony before transitioning to composition. Dessner is known for his work with Bang on a Can All-Stars and The National. Clogs released their debut album, Thom's Night Out, in 2001 on Brassland Records. Subsequent albums include Lullaby For Sue (2003), Stick Music (2004), Lantern (2006), and The Creatures In The Garden Of Lady Walton (2010). Their music blends minimalist, modernist, and romantic compositions with folk influences from various cultures.
