Biography
Claudio Roditi is a Brazilian jazz trumpet player whose styles encompasses heavy bop with Latin influences. His 2009 release 'Brazilliance X 4', described by Jazz Times as "sensuous and steamy", was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Album.
Born in Rio de Janeiro he learned to play music as a child and was influenced heavily by American jazz stars such as Louis Armstrong, Charlie Parker and Miles Davis. After spending some time performing in Mexico he moved to America in 1970 to study at Boston's Berklee School of Music. Based in New York from 1978, he performed with flautist Herbie Mann and saxophonist Charlie Rouse and joined Dizzy Gillespie's United Nations Orchestra. His debut recording 'Red On Red' came out in 1984 and he has released many more albums since. Well received albums include 'Gemini Man' (1988), 'Slow Fire' (1989), 'Two of Swords' (1991), 'On the Run' (1993) and 'Free Wheelin: The Music of Lee Morgan' (1995). He also recorded 'Milestones' (1992) and 'Brazilian Dreams' (2002) with Cuban saxophonist Paquito d'Rivera. His most recent release was 'Bons Amigos' (2008) with Brazilian guitarist Romero Lubambo, Italian bass player Marco Panascia, Nicaraguan pianist Donald Vega and Brazilian drummer Mauricio Zottarelli.
