City Boy is an English rock band formed in the mid-1970s, originating from Birmingham. The group consisted of Lol Mason (lead vocals), Steve Broughton (lead vocals, guitar), Max Thomas (keyboards, vocals), Chris Dunn (bass, acoustic guitar), Roger Kent (drums), Mike Slamer (lead guitar), and later, Roy Ward (drums, vocals). Initially known as Sons of Doloyne and then Back in the Band, they changed their name to City Boy before securing a recording contract with Vertigo Records. Their debut album, City Boy, was produced by Robert John "Mutt" Lange and released in 1976. The band's follow-up albums included Dinner at the Ritz (1976), Young Men Gone West (1976), Book Early (1978), The Day the Earth Caught Fire (1979), and Heads Are Rolling (1980). Notable songs include "5.7.0.5." from Book Early, which reached number 27 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, and "Speechless" from Heads Are Rolling. City Boy toured extensively in Europe and the United States, including a tour with Hall & Oates. The band parted ways with their US label Mercury Records in 1979 and signed with Atlantic Records. After releasing It's Personal (1981), City Boy disbanded in 1982 due to lack of commercial success. Lol Mason later formed the Maisonettes, while Steve Broughton became a songwriter and producer, contributing to hits by Cyndi Lauper and Britney Spears.
