Circle Takes the Square are an American screamo and post-hardcore band from Savannah, Georgia, formed in 1999. The ensemble was founded by Drew Speziale and Kathleen Stubelek, later adding drummer Caleb Collins. They achieved professional recognition for a musical style blending 1990s screamo, grindcore, and experimental post-rock. Their recording career began with the eponymous extended play Circle Takes the Square (2001) and a split recording with the band Pg. 99 titled Document #13: Pyramids in Cloth (2002). They released their debut studio album, As the Roots Undo (2004), through the labels Robotic Empire and HyperRealist. To promote the recording, they conducted a six-week tour of the East Coast and performed in Canada. After a period of inactivity starting in 2004, the group resumed activity in 2011 with the extended play Decompositions: Volume Number One, Chapter I: Rites of Initiation (2011). Their discography includes the studio recording Decompositions: Volume Number One (2012).
