Biography
Chthonic, a Taiwanese heavy metal band formed in Taipei in 1995 by Freddy Lim and his high school friends. Their first album, Where the Ancestors' Souls Gathered, was released in 1999 and reached number 2 on Tower Recordsâ pop charts in Asia. In 2000, Chthonic released their second album, 9th Empyrean. The band won the Best Band Award at the Taiwan Golden Melodies Award Ceremony in 2003. The band's international breakthrough came in 2005 with the release of Seediq Bale, which was later published internationally by labels such as Megaforce Records and SPV Records. Other notable achievements include performing at Ozzfest in 2007 and being named best international artist at the Tibetan Music Awards in 2009.
