Biography

Chris Norman was born on October 25, 1950 in Redcar, North Yorkshire, England. He is a British singer, songwriter and guitarist who is regarded as the defining voice of the soft rock and glam rock era of the 1970s. Chris Norman began making music with his school friends in 1965. In 1965, he founded the band Smokie in Bradford, whose members alongside Chris Norman included Alan Silson, Terry Uttley and Pete Spencer. As a solo artist, he released numerous albums and singles, which were particularly successful in German-speaking countries and Eastern Europe. His repertoire ranges between soft rock, pop and country. Famous albums include Some Hearts Are Diamonds (1986), Break Away (1987) and Hits from the Heart (1988). Further successful releases followed into the 2000s, including Time Traveler (2011), Crossover (2015) and Just a Man (2016). His well-known singles include "Midnight Lady" (1986), which reached number 1 in Germany, as well as "Some Hearts Are Diamonds" (1986) and "Broken Heroes" (1988). To date, Chris Norman has released albums such as Close Up (2021) and Junction 55 (2024). The album Lifelines is released in March 2026. The artist reaches number 6 in both Germany and Austria.
