Christopher Hülsbeck, born March 2, 1968, in Kassel, Germany, is a composer known for his work in video game music. At age 12, he began playing instruments and at 5, he received his first MIDI synthesizer, leading to his first significant achievement: composing "Shades" on the Commodore 64 in 1986, which won a competition featured in 64'er. This success led to collaborations with Rainbow Arts, where he composed music for games like Jinks, Bad Cat, and To Be on Top. Hülsbeck's career took off with the soundtrack for Turrican in 1990. His innovative use of multiple voices on limited hardware systems earned him a reputation in the gaming community. He founded Audios (Art Under Design, Imaginations Of Sound) and its sub-label Kaiko in 1990, releasing his first audio CD, Shades, under this label in 1991. In 1997, he established Synsoniq Records to promote video game music professionally. Hülsbeck's work has been featured in live concerts, including performances by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra and the FILMharmonic Orchestra. Subsequent notable releases include Number Nine (2007) and Symphonic Shades (2008).
